Good Luck, Sioux Falls! (we need it!)

Residents in San Diego may have more going for them then perfect weather! You're more likely to hit the jackpot there than in any other U.S. city, according to a survey conducted by Men's Health. The men's magazine crunched numbers and statistics to come up with this unlikely trifecta of lucky cities, using these criteria:

  • Most winners of Powerball, Mega Millions and Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes
  • Most hole-in-ones (PGA)
  • Fewest lightning strikes, including the fatal kind, as well as deaths from falling objects (Vaisala Inc., National Climatic Data Center, CDC)
  • Least money lost on lottery tickets and race betting (Bureau of Labor Statistics)

The top 10 luckiest U.S. cities:

  1. San Diego, California
  2. Baltimore, Maryland
  3. Phoenix, Arizona
  4. Wilmington, Delaware
  5. Richmond, Virginia
  6. San Francisco, California
  7. Las Vegas, Nevada
  8. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  9. Louisville, Kentucky
  10. Reno, Nevada

The top 10 least lucky U.S. cities:

  1. Charleston, West Virginia
  2. Tampa, Florida
  3. Jackson, Mississippi
  4. Memphis, Tennessee
  5. Sioux Falls, South Dakota
  6. Billings, Montana
  7. St. Petersburg, Florida
  8. Bridgeport, Connecticut
  9. Miami, Florida
