Linda Ronstadt reveals Parkinson's Disease

by Mark Cartwright

For those who had the roller skate poster hanging in their bedroom, like I did, this stings a bit.  Linda Ronstadt has revealed that she has Parkinson's Disease, and it has left her unable to sing.

I know she's 67 years old now, and this shouldn't be a surprise to anyone as they get older, but still, this shocked me.  The girl with the golden voice, who sang You're No Good, Hurts So Bad, (and an awesome version of Tumblin' Dice) was such a sex symbol in her day, and a wildly talented performer.  Her on stage performance in the Pirates of Penzance was admirable.  She proved she had the throat to play eight shows a week for a month at a time.  Unfortunately, now the hands of Parkinson's have robbed Linda of her singing voice.  She revealed that she now walks with poles, and travels with a wheel chair.

It's one thing to take away a singer's legs.  But to take away a singer's voice is like robbing Tom Brady of his throwing arm, or robbing Kobe Bryant of his ability to shoot.  It's a damn shame.  Here's wishing Linda the best!
