2 year old helpers

by Nikki Montgomery

At 2 you really start seeing your toddler's personality. They start revealing things they love and things they don't like. They tell you what they want to do and don't want to do. And best of all they love to help you do big people things.

We went over to my in-law's house yesterday and Papa Randy and Uncle Jason were building a bird house. Mia's cousin Gavin is 4 and he was supposed to help and he did a little, but he was scared of the saw so he came upstairs. Mia was curious about what was going on so Josh took her downstairs and she was all about helping.

Of course you can't work with wood without proper eye and ear protection. She had a great time handing Uncle Jason nails. He'd ask for three nails and she would count them out and hand them to him. It was so cute.

We love encouraging her to do things like this. Sometimes she gets in the way, but if you just direct her attention to something else she's usually pretty good. Like in this picture. By letting her "pound" the nails she was keeping busy and staying out of the way, but she thought she was helping and that's all that matters. She had a blast and she was a very good girl the whole time she was down in the workshop with the men.

Looks like we're going to have to get this girl a workbench :)
