Michael Jordan recently talked about who would be on his ultimate pick up basketball team and it got me thinking, who would I want to have? First, here is who Jordan picked to accompany him; former teammate Scottie Pippen, James Worthy and Magic Johnson from the Lakers, and former Houston Rockets center Hakeem Olajuwon. Here is who I would choose to hit the pavement, hardwood or whatever surface with me and why.
Wilt Chamberlain- The only man to put up points in the three digit range in a game would be a popular choice. Not only was Wilt dominant for his time but he had a vertical jump of anywhere from 45-50 inches. He could easily play in today's game with some of the greatest athletes in the world.
John Stockton- I could choose someone who doesn't play the point guard position to distribute the basketball but why not have the guy who did it better than anyone else? Stockton's pin-point accuracy and dissection of defenses made him one of my favorite players to watch growing up.
LeBron James- The jack-of-all-trades best player in the current era of the NBA is a physical freak. James willingly does whatever the team asks of him. He is a force going to the hole, crafty with the ball in his hands and imagine Stockton throwing an alley-oop to this guy!
Bill Russell- The man won two NCAA Championships, a Gold medal at the 1956 Olympics, was the captain of the U.S. National Basketball team and oh 11 NBA Championships! And we haven't even gotten into how good of a player he was. I want a man with that winning mentality to round out my team as well as a ton of talent.
What four players are you choosing to join you for some 5-on-5?
