Need Motivation to stay active?

Let's face it most of us need a little extra motivation to keep up with our fitness goals. It's easy to slip into the routine of not doing what you were planning to do. Yesterday the National Bike Challenge officially wrapped up for 2013, but it will be back next year. So start making the commitment now to be a better biker next year! There are a lot of great places you can explore from your bicycle seat. 

And the National Bike Challenge, NBC, awards you points for each time you ride your bike from May 1st through September 30th. Are the points really worth anything? No, but they can still be a great motivator to keep you active. You can see your point total online and see how you are doing in regard to other NBC members. 

This year 34,528 riders logged more than 18 Million miles riding bikes all around the country. When you stop and think about that, it's a pretty good accomplishment. Not only is there the exercise benefit, it is also estimated that more than 2 million dollars in commuting costs were saved. 

You can ride by yourself or be on a team, and this year my team finished first in the small team division for the state of Minnesota. Our ten riders rode for over 16,500 miles this summer, and everyone on our team will tell you the NBC was a big reason they rode so much. 

This is one of the best times of the year to ride, so make it a point to dust off that bike and get out on the trail. While your riding enjoying the fall colors, make the commitment to ride the NBC in 2014. It's free, easy and I guarantee you will ride more than you did this past year!
