VERMILLION, S.D. (KWSN)—University of South Dakota’s volleyball program is one of 130 Division I teams that earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2012-13 season.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average on a 4.0 scale. The Coyotes’ GPA was 3.38, which included a 3.41 term GPA for the fall semester.
“This is an award we have been striving to achieve for the last few years,” said USD head volleyball coach Matt Houk. “Academics are important to us and our program and it is great to see the team achieve this goal after putting in the time and effort.”
The Coyotes take the court for their first practice of the 2013 season Saturday. South Dakota’s first competitions are Aug. 30-31 at a tournament hosted by Missouri.
