SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Senator John Thune will not support the budget agreement that will pass the Senate today.
Thune says the bill breaks the spending limits put in place by the budget control act passed two years ago. He says it raises discretionary spending over the next two years by $63 billion dollars, above the caps that were put in place. The promise to pay for the legistation is an increase in fees and spending cuts that Thune says may never materialize.
Thune says he’s disappointed the bill doesn’t address entitlement spending which he says is the driver of the debt and deficit.
The federal debt is over $17 trillion and Thune says this is Washington kicking the can down the road again.
