SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KWSN) - Augustana women's basketball ranks sixth in the first edition of the NCAA Central Region rankings released by the NCAA on Wednesday afternoon.  The Vikings own a 19-5 overall  record with a 16-5 in-region mark.

The Central region is comprised of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA), and Great American Conference (GAC).  The top eight teams in the final region rankings earn a bid to the NCAA Central Region Tournament.

Washburn (Kan.) leads the Central region, sporting a 17-1 in-region mark, and leads five teams from the MIAA.  The NSIC only has three representatives; Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State join Augustana in the initial region rankings.  The GAC rounds out the top 10 with a pair of members appearing in the rankings.

Washburn is followed by Central Missouri at No.2 while Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State check in at No. 3 and 4. Truman State appears one slot ahead of the Vikings at No. 5 and Arkansas Tech and Southwestern Oklahoma State round out the top eight.  Northeastern State and Fort Hays State are ranked No. 9 and 10 concluding the first edition of the Central Region Rankings.

The Vikings close the regular season at home this weekend against Upper Iowa on Friday, Feb. 22 and Winona State on Saturday, Feb. 23.
