LANSING (WKZO) -- Barring a last-minute deal, a so-called sequester of automatic, across-the-board spending cuts will begin taking effect Friday.
In Michigan, more than 800 civilians who work for the Defense Department will be furloughed. The state will lose more than 23-million dollars in funding that goes directly to schools, and special education grants will take a 21-million-dollar hit.
Almost four-million dollars will be cut from child care assistance programs, and Head Start will see 14-million in funding pulled.
