On August 1, Maroon 5 will kick off this year's Honda Civic Tour with Kelly Clarkson . When two big acts like this tour together, onstage collaborations aren't a given, but Maroon 5 guitarist James Valentine says fans may just be lucky enough to witness an Adam Levine /Kelly duet.
"You know, we talked about that. We actually need to talk about that more," James tells ABC News Radio, pointing out that the band has recorded some songs that included female voices in the past, and Kelly could possibly join them on one of those. "Moves Like Jagger" is the obvious choice, of course, but another one that comes to mind is "Out of Goodbyes," which Maroon 5 recorded with Hillary Scott of Lady Antebellum for their album Hands All Over.
James says an on-stage collabo on "Out of Goodbyes" "would be really great," adding, "We need to talk to Kelly and her people."
But duet or not, James says the double bill of Maroon 5 and Kelly will be a great one. "We've been, actually, talking about doing a tour with her for a few years, so I'm glad that it's finally actually happening," he tells ABC News Radio. "I think it's gonna be a really entertaining night. So I encourage people to show up early and see the whole show."
In addition to the main acts, the Honda Civic Tour will include rotating opening acts, including Tony Lucca from The Voice, singer Rozzi Crane , who's signed to Adam's record label, and PJ Morton , Maroon 5's keyboardist, who has a parallel solo career.
"It's gonna be the summertime, so, come early, throw down a blanket, open a couple of Diet Cokes and enjoy the night!" says James.
The Honda Civic tour will run through October 6, wrapping up in Los Angeles. There are rumors that Kelly will marry her fiance, Brandon Blackstock , later in October.
