Elton John has been forced to postpone several upcoming European tour dates because of a bout with appendicitis.
According to a post on John's official website , the 66-year-old pop-rock legend was diagnosed with "appendix abscess surrounding retrocaecal appendicitis" after he fell ill during his current European trek. He currently is taking antibiotics and is expected to undergo surgery in the U.K. in the coming weeks.
Among the shows affected by Sir Elton's illness is a scheduled headlining performance at London's Hyde Park that was to have taken place this Friday. The concert, part of the British Summer Time series, will still be held that day, with previously announced artists

John will not resume his tour until early September, when he's expected to be fully recovered, according to his rep.
Elton has a handful of dates lined up in the U.K. and Germany for the first half of September, including a just-announced concert in conjunction with London's iTunes Festival on September 12. He kicks off a new month-long installment of his ongoing Las Vegas residency on September 18.
John's new stduio album, The Diving Board , is due out September 24.
