Kelly Clarkson 's the original American Idol , so it's fitting that one of her songs would grab the #1 spot on Billboard magazine's list of the Top 100 American Idol hits of all time .

The list takes into account overall performance on the Billboard Hot 100, and Kelly's smash hit "Since U Been Gone" is #1, even though when it was originally released in 2005, the highest it ever got was #2.  Kelly tells Billboard that the first time she heard it, she told the producers, "'This is really poppy. Do you mind if we rock the track up a little?"  As a result, she says, "They put in some heavier guitars and harder drums." She describes it as "just a really fun song to sing."

Kelly absolutely dominates the top 100 Idol songs list: she's got 18 songs on it overall, and six of them are in the list's top ten, including "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)," "Behind These Hazel Eyes," "Breakaway," "Because of You" and "My Life Would Suck Without You."   Surprisingly, Carrie Underwood only has one in the top 10: "Before He Cheats," which is #9.

Here's the full top 10:

1. "Since U Been Gone"
2. "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)"
3. "No Air," Jordin Sparks w/Chris Brown
4. "Behind These Hazel Eyes"
5. "Breakaway"
6. "Home," Phillip Phillips
7. "Because of You"
8. "My Life Would Suck Without You"
9. "Before He Cheats," Carrie Underwood
10. "Home," Daughtry

Overall, American Idol winners and alumni -- 68 finalists in all -- have been responsible for 379 number-one hits, counting all national and domestic charts compiled by Billboard.
