Taylor Swift's Magazine Cover Sales: Flop or Just Fine?

Over the past few months, Taylor Swift's been on the cover of what seems like every major fashion magazine.  There have also been reports that putting her on the cover hurts sales.  Does it?  Depends on how you look at it.

Women's Wear Daily reports that Taylor's February Vogue cover didn't sell as many copies as those covers featuring Lady Gaga or Adele , but it's not like her numbers were a flop, either: E! Online reports that Taylor's 329,371 copies were an above-average number for the year.

As for her November Glamour cover, WWD says Taylor sold fewer copies than Lauren Conrad or Victoria Beckham's covers did, but E! notes that the 443,000 copies she did sell are nothing to sneeze at.  And though WWD says that Taylor's December Harper's Bazaar cover sold fewer copies than Gwen Stefani's, her numbers were still above average for the period.

In fact, the only magazine whose sales seemed to take a real downturn when Taylor was featured on the cover is Cosmopolitan.   WWD reports Taylor's December Cosmo cover sales were 20% below the six-month average.

Explaining Taylor's yo-yoing sales numbers, Glamour editor-in-chief Cindi Leive tells WWD that it might have something to do with the singer's love life.  "There may have been a little hiccup for her right around the 1D relationship [with Harry Styles ], but it’s nothing a pro can’t come back from. I’d put money on her for the long run,” said Leive.

Meanwhile, there are still plenty of magazines out there that wants Taylor on their covers: this year, she's already appeared on Vanity Fair Elle and InStyle UK.
