Drowning victims identified

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.(KELO AM) - Sioux Falls Police released the names of the victims of Thursday night's drownings at Falls Park.

Chief Doug Barthel says recovery crews are still searching for the bodies of 16-year-old Madison Leigh Wallace and 28-year-old Lyle Francis Eagletail. Barthel says Madison is the sister of 6-year-old Garrett Martin Lawrence who fell into the foamy Big Sioux River near the overlook cafe.

He says after Garrett fell, Madison went in after him and Eagletail followed. Barthel says Garrett initially went into the foam, which was six to ten feet tall, and it sounds as though he may have walked into the foam. He says it's hard to say if Garrett actually went into the water.

Sioux Falls Fire-Rescue Chief Jim Sideras says recovery crews are battling ice and are bringing more equipment to remove that obstacle. Sideras says it may take days before the bodies are recovered.
