History making SF meth bust

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Sioux Falls Police made the largest seizure of methamphetamine in the city's history yesterday when they found almost nine pounds of the drug in an S-U-V.

Chief Doug Barthel says the investigation began when 42-year-old Regina Renee Johnson of Sioux Falls left $87,000 cash in a motel room earlier this week.  He believes she was dealing meth out of the room.

Barthel says Johnson returned to the southwest Sioux Falls motel Wednesday and tried to get back into the room saying she left money behind.  He says the motel staff became suspicious and called police who found the money under the mattress.  Johnson had registered under her own name and her East 61st Street North address.

Barthel says police arrested Johnson and 42-year-old Robert Raymond Jackson a few hours later in an S-U-V on South Shirley Avenue and found the meth.

Police seized a total of $94,000 cash from the motel, the car and their home.  They arrested Johnson's son, 19-year-old Austin Jon Dalstead, at the house.  All are charged with distribution of meth.

Barthel says if the nine pounds of meth is sold by the gram, it could fetch $500,000.
