The live playoffs on NBC's The Voice continued Monday night, with all 12 of the remaining artists from Adam Levine , Blake Shelton , Usher , and Shakira 's teams performing for viewers' votes.
Two of them will be eliminated on Tuesday night's results show.
Vedo of Team Usher opened the proceedings with "Rock with You," by the late Michael Jackson . Usher told his protégé that he paced himself well, and that he earned himself votes by hitting the right notes.
Next up was Blake Shelton artist Holly Tucker , who belted out Martina McBride 's "A Broken Wing." Usher affirmed that Holly, who's battled confidence issues behind the scenes, belongs in the competition. Blake added that it was the best performance by Holly on the show to date.
Team Shakira's Garrett Gardner put a John Mayer -esque spin on The Backstreet Boys hit "I Want It That Way." Adam knocked it slightly, saying it wasn't his "favorite choice." Shakira defended her artist -- she said she wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people downloaded the performance on iTunes.
Sarah Simmons of Team Adam sang Brandi Carlile 's "The Story." Adam said there is a "refined diversity" in Sarah's voice that makes it special.
In tribute to country legend George Jones , who passed away late last month, The Swon Brothers performed Jones' “Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes.” An image of Jones was displayed on a monitor in the background. The duo's coach, Blake, gave them kudos for honoring country music and Jones on the show.
Shakira urged Sasha Allen , a former Broadway singer, not to be too theatrical with Heart 's "Alone." Allen came through as far as Shakira was concerned; the coach said the performance was emotional and heartfelt. She added that if America votes for Allen, she'll write a song titled "My Sasha."
Josiah Hawley was assigned The Script 's "The Man Who Can't Be Moved" by his coach, Usher. Blake joked that Josiah borrowed a white T-shirt from Adam for the night, adding that he liked what he heard. Usher said it almost felt as if he had worked with a young Adam.
Blake gave the youngest contestant in the competition, Houston teen Danielle Bradbery , the Carrie Underwood track "Wasted." Shakira oddly described Danielle as a mini " Margaret Thatcher " and a mini "Iron Lady." Adam declared that she's the one to beat.
Judith Hill delivered a rendition of "You've Got a Friend," by Carole King . Her coach, Adam, pointed out that she created her own musical arrangement, without help from the band -- a rarity on the show. Adam said Judith has a talent that cannot be taught.
Michelle Chamuel brought her usual energy to "Call Your Girlfriend," by Swedish pop star Robyn . Usher liked that she was able to move around and have fun with it.
Shakira picked the Jackson 5 's "I'll Be There" for Kris Thomas . Usher said it sounds like a blend of the Jackson 5 version and the Mariah Carey version.
Team Adam's Amber Carrington closed the show with McBride's "I'm Gonna Love You Through It." She chose the song herself, inspired by her late mother's battle with cancer. Blake commented that Amber did McBride and Nashville proud. Adam said he admired Amber for picking a tune that was so close to her heart. He added that she continuously surpasses his expectations.
On Tuesday's results show, which begins at 9 p.m. Eastern time, the bottom two artists will be sent home, regardless of which team they are on. Musical guests include Lady Antebellum , Robin Thicke , and rapper T.I.
By the way, enjoy Shakira's time on The Voice while you can. Deadline.com reports she will step away after this season so that Christina Aguilera can return to her chair. It remains to be seen whether Cee Lo Green will be back to displace fill-in Usher next fall.
