SDSU Track and Field: SDSU sends four to Texas

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (KWSN) – The South Dakota State track and field teams will be sending four athletes to the NCAA West Preliminary Round next weekend. Brooke GarnerTrent LusignanAmy Paulzineand Tera Potts are the four athletes that will be representing SDSU in Austin, Texas.

The NCAA West Preliminary Round takes place in Austin, Texas on May 23-25.

Garner qualified for both the hammer throw and the discus throw. At the Dakota Duals on April 4, Garner recorded distances of 198’ 11.00” in the hammer throw and the 170’ 5.00” in the discus throw. She is seeded 20th in the hammer throw and 30th in the discus throw.

She won both the hammer throw and the discus throw last week at The Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Garner owns the school record in the hammer throw and the discus throw.

Lusignan will be running in the 10,000-meter run. He ran a time of 29:40.56 at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 18. He won the 5,000-meter run and the 10,000-meter run last week at The Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Lusignan is seeded 35th in the race.

At the Long Beach Invite on April 19, Potts won the 3000-meter steeplechase with her time of10:34.39. Her time of 10:34.39 set the school record in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Potts is seeded 32nd.

Paulzine made the field in the javelin throw. She posted a season-best mark of 145’ 9.00” at The Summit League Track and Field Outdoor Championships; she finished third in the javelin throw. Paulzine is the 48th seed in the event.

This is the second time Garner and Paulzine have qualified for the event. They both made the field for the 2012 NCAA West Preliminary Round.

The top 12 times/marks in each event will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. onJune 5-8.
