SIOUX FALLS, S. D. (KELO AM) - As you kickoff the summer travel season this weekend, remember to keep your vehicle’s tires properly inflated.
Rubber Manufacturers Association Vice President Dan Zielinski says properly inflated tires help save lives and money at the pump. He says when a tire is underinflated it internally builds up heat. Over time that heat can start to affect the internal components of the tire and that can weaken them leading to a blow out.
Zielinski advises checking pressure when your tires are cold and use the correct inflation pressure.
He says your tire’s correct pressure is found on a label on the driver’s side door or the owner’s manuel, it’s not the maximum pressure on your tire’s sidewall.
Zielinski says properly inflated tires can save 11 cents a gallon at the pump and help them last longer with simple montly maintenance.
