"American Idol" Winner's Coronation Song Sales Hit All-Time Low

American Idol ratings this past season weren't great, to say the least, and now the winner's record sales seem to be suffering as well.

Yahoo Chart Watch reports that winner Candice Glover's single "I Am Beautiful" has entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart at #94.  That's the lowest chart debut ever for an Idol winner's coronation song.  The title was previously held by Kelly Clarkson 's "A Moment Like This," but that song jumped to #1 three weeks after its release.  Since then, every other coronation song has debuted in the top 30.

In 12 seasons of American Idol , six coronation songs have debuted in the top 10; the rest debuted in the top 15.  The only one that failed to make the top 15 was Lee DeWyze's cover of U2's "Beautiful Day," which entered the chart at #24.

"I Am Beautiful" sold only 48,000 copies in its first week. By comparison, "Home," by last year's winner Phillip Phillips , sold 278,000 copies, setting a new record for Idol winner sales.

To add insult to injury, the American Idol judges, who are supposed to be helping launch Candice's career as a superstar, are outpacing her on the charts by miles.  Mariah Carey's new single, "#Beautiful," debuted at #24 and is now at #20.  Nicki Minaj's single, "High School," has climbed as high as #68, but is now #79.  Only Keith Urban is lagging behind: his new single, "Little Bit of Everything," debuted at #95, one spot behind Candice.
