James Taylor will help the famed Queen Mary 2 ocean liner celebrate its 10th anniversary this coming summer by playing a pair of concerts during the ship's transatlantic voyage from New York to Southampton, England. The eight-day voyage will begin on August 27, 2014, and will stop in Halifax, Canada, en route to the U.K.
James' nautical concerts will be held in the ship's intimate Royal Court Theatre. The folk-rock legend took a similar trip with his family on the Queen Mary 2 in 2009, and also entertained fellow travelers with a show during that excursion. In addition, James used the voyage as an opportunity to rehearse for a European tour and, in the process, transported his band and crew across the pond for the trek.
"I've always wanted to take an ocean liner back to Europe, and in June 2009 we got the chance to do that," the 65-year-old singer/songwriter says in a statement. "It's such a civilized way to go."
He adds, "I am looking forward to celebrating the ship's 10th anniversary alongside her crew, staff and guests by performing two onboard concerts as my band and I make our next European passage. Hallelujah, no jet lag!"
