SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - You don’t have to be a furloughed federal employee to experience a gap in pay and Lutheran Social Services has tips for an interrupted paycheck.
Community Relations Coordinator Marley Prunty-Lara advises taking inventory of resources, review expenses, prioritize bills and communicate with creditors in writing.
Prunty-Lara says you want to take care of you and your family first. She says you want to pay your rent or mortgage, utility bills and food for the table. She says you need to talk to others you owe for loans or credit card, for instance. Let them know your current situation and make sure you can deliver on any promises you make to them, such as x amount every month.
Prunty-Lara says Lutheran Social Services is a private, non-profit social service agency offering reliable help with financial concerns.
She says people are most vulnerable when in crisis and lean on the advice of others.
