Billy Joel will help New York City ring in 2014. He's announced a concert at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY on New Year's Eve.
While Billy did perform at the 12-12-12 Sandy benefit show last year, this is his first solo concert in the New York City area since 2008, when he closed down the legendary Shea Stadium in Queens, NY. It's his first solo arena, rather than stadium, show in New York City since 2006.
In a statement, Brett Yormark , CEO of Barclays Center, said, “When we opened Barclays Center 13 months ago, Billy was one of the must-have artists for our building and we are thrilled that he will be ringing in the New Year on Brooklyn’s biggest stage. New York City born and Long Island raised, Billy is an iconic New Yorker and we are looking forward to a memorable evening.”
After taking time off from the stage to recover from double hip surgery, Billy has slowly made his way back to performing over the past few months. In the spring, he played a music festival in Australia and performed at the New Orleans Jazz Fest; a few weeks ago, he did an intimate charity show near his home in Long Island, New York. He's currently touring in the U.K. and Ireland.
Tickets for the show will go on sale November 9 at 10 a.m. American Express card members can buy tickets starting on Monday, November 4.
