MIAMI, FL (KWSN)– The South Dakota State volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss on Friday at the FIU Invitational to the host Panthers by the set scores of 25-15, 25-14 and 25-14, dropping the Jackrabbits to 1-7 on the season.
“We struggled tonight with stopping the point runs by FIU, they were able to stay in system most of the match,” head coach Phil McDaniel said. “We have to find a way to put more stress on opponent defenses.”
Two players posted double-digit kills for the Panthers, who improve to 5-4 on the season, led by Kimberly Smith with 15 and Lucia Castro with 13. Smith hit an even .500 for the match (15-2-26), and added a trio of solo blocks and the same amount of block assists to finish with six total blocks, while Castro added four block assists in the win.
Wagner Larson led the Jackrabbits with seven kills and with two block assists, as no SDSU player finished with double figure kills or digs.
The Jacks get Saturday off before closing the FIU Invitational on Sunday against Tennessee-Chattanooga at 10 a.m. ET.
