BURNSVILLE, MINN. (KWSN) - Augustana middle blocker Holly Hafemeyer's career-high performance against Northwest Missouri State propelled her to Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference defensive player of the week honors according to a release from the league on Monday afternoon.Hafemeyer registered 11 total blocks (1 solo, 10 block assists) in the Vikings' four-set win over Northwest Missouri State.
The Faribault, Minn. native's 11-block total fell one short of tying the Augustana record and paired with her 19 kills for her first career double-double. Hafemeyer closed the door on the Bearcats' comeback chances with a solo block to end the match and keep the Vikings undefeated.Throughout the entire NSIC Challenge tournament, Hafemeyer amassed 22 total blocks for a 1.69 block/set average to lead all tournament participants.
Hafemeyer also had an extremely productive and efficient tournament offensively. She led the tournament in attack percentage with a .421 mark and was second in kills/set at 4.46 behind teammate Courtney Ysker.
This week, the Vikings open NSIC regular-season competition by hosting Southwest Minnesota State on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. in the Elmen Center.
