It's been nearly 33 years since John Lennon 's murder, but his loss still stings for his close friend Elton John .  In fact, Elton says even now he can't even look at images of John, because it makes him too upset.

During his Vegas show The Million Dollar Piano , Elton performs the song "Empty Garden," which he wrote as a tribute to Lennon.  During the performance, footage of the late Beatle is shown behind him, but as he tells Entertainment Weekly , "I don't look back when I'm playing that song -- if I see the footage of John, I get choked up and it's too hard to get through the song."

Despite the passage of time, Elton continues, "I miss him so much."  He adds, "He was a force of nature and you don't get many of those.  And you sure as hell miss them when they leave."

John Lennon's last major concert appearance was at Elton's concert at New York City's Madison Square Garden, Thanksgiving Night 1974.   Elton had bet John that if his song "Whatever Gets You Through the Night" reached #1, Lennon had to join him on stage to sing it.  They did that, as well as "I Saw Her Standing There" and "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds."
