"The X Factor" Recap: Auditions End, Contestants Are Divided into Categories

The X Factor aired the last of the season's auditions on Thursday night. Judges Simon Cowell , Demi Lovato , Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio then narrowed down the field and divided the remaining contestants into four categories: the boys, the girls, the singers over the age of 25, and the groups. By the end of the episode, 40 acts were left standing.

The night began with an audition by 45-year-old general contractor Neal Macomber , who jumped all around the stage and walked up to the female judges, staring directly into their eyes. It was pretty creepy, and he was dismissed.

Incidentally, when he told the panel he is not married because he hasn't found the right woman yet, Simon replied, "I know how you feel." The moment was followed by a voiceover from host Mario Lopez in which he said, "This performance was previously recorded. We're pleased to report that Mr. Cowell indeed found the right girl, best of luck Simon." That's an obvious reference to Simon's pregnant girlfriend, Lauren Silverman .

Victoria Carriger , a mother of eight, sang Kelly Clarkson 's "Because of You." Simon said he was not expecting such a wonderful audition. Victoria advanced.

Keith Buekelaer , who auditioned for Simon 10 years ago on American Idol , wore a tie-dye outfit with a feathered boa as he ripped through the Sir Mix-A-Lot hit "Baby Got Back." All of the judges got up and danced, even Simon. Unbelievably, Keith was passed through initially, but didn't make the top 40.

After the final auditions, the judges deliberated on the pool of contestants and announced the entries in each category. The judges were not told in advance which category they would mentor.

Here's a rundown of the categories:

Girls: Khaya Cohen , Bree Randall , Jamie Pineda , Simone Torres , Rion Paige , Danie Geimer , Rylie Brown , Primrose Martin , Ellona Santiago and Ashly Williams . They will be mentored by Demi.

Boys: Carlito Olivero , Chase Goehring , Timmy Thames , Isaiah Alston , Tim Olstad , Al Calderon , Josh Levi , Isaac Tauaefa , Carlos Guevara and Stone Martin . They will be mentored by Paulina.

Groups: Glamour , Good News , Yellow House Canyon , Alex & Sierra , Roxxy Montana , Wild Thingz and Girls United . In addition, several other contestants were assembled into new groups. The category will be mentored by Simon.

Over 25: Lillie McCloud , Jeff Brinkman , Rachel Potter , Kristine Mirelle , Victoria Carriger, James Kenney , Allison Davis , Denny Smith , Lorie Moore and Jeff Gutt . They will be mentored by Kelly.

Next Wednesday on Fox, The X Factor will introduce a brand-new round called the "Four-Chair Challenge." The acts in each category will compete for one of four available spots.
