Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) Lloyd Companies wants to turn the old South Dakota School For The Deaf on the East side of Sioux Falls into a mixed use development, called Tenth Street Square.
CEO Craig Lloyd says housing, retail and offices would be grouped around the old school.'s lush green central park. Some of the historic buildings would be re-tooled into affordable housing.
Lloyd says he is already getting interest from coffee shops and other retailers for the strip mall to be developed along the 12th street side of the campus.
The student population at the school which started in the 19th century, reached its peak in the 1960s, then started to decline. The main campus was closed in 2011.
