Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) The farm bill has, at long last, been signed, but it's still 'hurry up and wait' for South Dakota ranchers and farmers.

Executive Director of the South Dakota Farm Bureau, Wayne Smith, says there will be at least a 3-week lag time before the many provisions of the bill are implemented because U-S-D-A now needs to actually set it all in stone.

Once in stone, Smith says producers will finally have their risk management tools in place.

The Farm Bureau is already talking about what it wants in the next farm bill, five years from now. Smith says there should be some sort of insurance program for livestock similar to crop insurance.
