Washington, DC (KELO-AM) The South Dakota congressional delegation is praising the U.S Department of Agriculture for speeding up livestock disaster programs that will help West River ranchers hurt by the October blizzard.
Senator John Thune (R) says the programs should be available for sign up in 60 days. Thune and others wrote a letter to USDA soon after the farm bill was signed, urging officials to expedite the disaster relief.
Senator Tim Johnson (D), also one of the letter writers, says the speedy sign up is good news for producers across South Dakota.
Representative Kristi Noem (R) also sent a letter to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, asking for expedited relief. She says she is very pleased to see USDA moving quickly.
