CLEVELAND, Ohio (KWSN)— South Dakota State's Brandon Hubert and Zach Zenner were among the 43 student-athletes named Friday to the 16th annual Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star Team.
Hubert, a senior wide receiver from Gretna, Neb., was named to the honor squad with a 3.70 grade-point average while majoring in pharmacy and ACS certified chemistry. A member of the Capital One Academci All-District Team, Hubert ranked third on the team with 36 receptions for 423 yards and four touchdowns in helping lead the the Jackrabbits to their second consecutive FCS playoff berth.
A junior running back from Eagan, Minn., Zenner was a repeat selection to the FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team after postng a 3.85 GPA in pre-medicine. A first-team selection to the Capital One Academic All-America Team for his work in the classroom, Zenner also racked up numerous All-America honors for his exploits on the field, where he gained 2,015 yards and scored 25 total touchdowns (23 rushing, 2 receiving) during the 2013 campaign.
Nominees were required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletics credentials. He must have reached his second year of athletics and academic standing at the nominated institution and have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the nominated institution. He must also have participated in 50 percent of the games played at his designated position. A total of 90 players were nominated for the award — with a limit of two nominees per institution.
