"Dark Horse" has become one of Katy Perry 's biggest hits, but now it's attracted a lawsuit.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that a group of Christian hip-hop musicians from St. Louis, Missouri, have sued Katy, her record label, her producers and others in federal court, claiming that "Dark Horse" ripped off a 2008 song called " Joyful Noise ," by Christian rapper Flame . In addition, the suit claims that "Joyful Noise" has now been "irreparably tarnished by its association with the witchcraft, paganism, black magic, and Illuminati imagery evoked by the same music in ‘Dark Horse.’”
The song "Joyful Noise" was nominated for a 2008 Gospel Music Association Dove Award for the best rap/hip-hop song, the suit says.
According to the paper, Katy's label has not yet responded to the suit. Ironically, Katy comes from a deeply religious background and initially tried her hand at Christian music before switching to pop.
