Pierre, SD (KELO AM) - South Dakota Tourism secretary Jim Hagen says that Mount Rushmore National Memorial will likely stay open in the event of another government shutdown.
Hagen says that South Dakota residents showed how passionate they were by donating thousands of dollars to reopen the Memorial during the last shutdown.
The Interior Department also learned that the monuments and parks mean a lot to the local economies.
Data from the Interior Department shows nearly four million people visited national parks in South Dakota in 2012. Thy supported over 3,700 jobs by spending more than $236 million during their visits.
