It's hard to believe that Lorde has had time to work on new music, given her nonstop schedule, but it seems the 17-year-old Grammy winner has managed to come up with some fresh material -- and she says it doesn't sound anything like her previous work.
"I'm working on stuff quite tentatively," she told BBC Newsbeat. "It's definitely still at the beginning and yeah, it's totally different." In addition to being different, Lorde thinks that her new stuff will end up being better than her hit album Pure Heroine .
"I think I've learned so much as a songwriter, there's going to be so much of an improvement because of that," she said. "I wrote the last album about that world which was the suburb where I grew up and populated by my friends and people who were really familiar to me. Now I'm in a different place every day and I'm with new people every day and it's a different vibe."
In addition to writing for herself, Lorde has also been asked to pen material for other artists, which she enjoys, she tells BBC Newsbeat.
"I do get a lot of insanely good people asking if we want to do something, which is amazing and so much fun, I really enjoy collaborating," she said. Explaining how she's able to get into the head of a different artist so she can write something that fits them, she laughed, "I literally do research. I look at an outfit of theirs that I really loved and I write as if I was in that outfit at the time."
Meanwhile, Lorde's new line of makeup for MAC is now available. Because Lorde herself doesn't wear a lot of makeup in her everyday life, it features just two items: an eyeliner called Rapid Black, and a dark purple lipstick called Pure Heroine.
"It's cool to have your own lipstick shade," she says. "Now I don't have to be like, 'What lipstick am I going to wear today?' I've got it."
