Melissa Etheridge, Patti LaBelle and Aretha Franklin are among the vocal powerhouses who've been selected to perform before President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama as part of the "In Performance at the White House” concert series.
The upcoming event is called Women of Soul: In Performance at the White House , and it'll be streamed live on the White House website Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. ET, and broadcast April 7 on PBS.
Melissa, Patti and the Queen of Soul will be joined by Tessanne Chin , who won season five of The Voice, as well as rising pop star Ariana Grande , and R&B stars Jill Scott and Janelle Monae at the event. Top session keyboard player Greg Phillinganes , who's worked with everyone from Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder to Eric Clapton and Paul McCartney , will serve as music director.
Women of Soul: In Performance at the White House will be the twelfth “In Performance at the White House” program that's taken place during President Barack Obama’s administration. Since 2009, these programs have saluted everyone from Stevie Wonder to Paul McCartney to Carole King , and have also paid tribute to Broadway musicals, Memphis soul, the blues and country music.
