Pierre, SD (KELO-AM) Governor Dennis Daugaard's desk is now clear. He has signed all remaining bills from the 2014 legislative session.
The bills signed include the state-wide texting-while-driving ban and a new law that will treat electronic cigarettes or e-cigs just like tobacco products. The laws take effect July 1st.
The Governor also signed the new state budget that provide a 3.3% increase for the schools. Some supporters are hoping it goes toward teacher pay.
Daugaard says he hopes that the texting ban will help South Dakotans keep their eyes on the road and not on their phones. Sioux Falls will keep it's texting ban in force because it is tougher than the state-wide ban.
State lawmakers will have a quiet time in Pierre when they come back on Monday as the session is really just to consider vetoed bills, and there won't be any to consider.
