SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KELO.com) — With Valentines Day coming in two weeks, of course, one obviously thinks of Sioux City as a place to spend the romantic holiday.
There are the old stockyards. The old John Morrell plant. The Floyd River with no water in it. The crumbling Loess Hills that much of the city sits on. The pint-sized replica of the Washington Monument honoring appendicitis stricken Sgt. Floyd of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The remaining sand deposited from the 2011 Missouri River flood, to name just a few delights. And, of course, what says “I love you!” more than the never-ending road construction on I-29?
Ok, maybe not.
However, Lindsay Hindman, author of 100 Things to Do in Sioux City and Siouxland Before You Die, suggests that Sioux City, like Virginia, is for lovers. She recommends:
- Local Valentine events include pottery workshops from Painted Palette, in-person and streaming musical performances, and more!
- Valentine’s activities in Siouxland include free kits for kids from the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center and a wall of love at the Southern Hills Mall.
- Date ideas include a glamorous night out at the Warrior Hotel, laid back fun cruising for burgers and milkshakes at Billy Boy and the Blue Bunny Ice Cream Parlor, or a late-night trip down the illuminated tubing hill at Cone Park!

Or, you could just save the 90 mile trip on Valentine’s Day, stay in Sioux Falls, and take in the sights and smells of the Smithfield pork plant after visiting the exterior of the state penitentiary or see if Mr. Bendo has moved or blinked after his move to Minnesota Avenue.
Now that’s romance!
