SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Demand for blood donations remains high amid the pandemic. The Sioux Falls Community Blood Bank says it’s risen by about a third since March and hasn’t let up over the past few months.
“We are extremely grateful for the response and support that has been provided in our communities throughout the area,” Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank, said in a release. “There seems to be no real end to the higher demands being placed on our community’s blood supply at this time. Please consider donating blood this February and give a gift that comes from the heart and provides hope.”
Community Blood Bank is a joint cooperative of Avera and Sanford Health, taking pride in being self-sufficient, thanks to the generosity of community volunteers. Community Blood Bank is not affiliated with any other blood bank entities.

Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form found at www.cbblifeblood.org) weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good general health. Donors exhibiting cold or flu symptoms are unable to donate. A valid identification is required at the time of registration. It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating blood. With policies associated in addressing COVID-19, only donors with appointments will be accepted.
