RAPID CITY, S.D. (KELO.com) — 45-year-old James Jumping Eagle has been arrested in the murder of 82-year-old Rapid City Resident Reta McGovern in her Flormann Street home.
Brendyn Medina, community relations specialist with the Rapid City Police Department, said the motive has yet to be publically disclosed as the investigation shifts into a trial.
“We’re just thankful to have him in custody and off the streets,” said Medina. “This is a horrible crime that took place and in such a horrible manner and we want to work to hold him accountable and bring some resolution to Miss McGovern’s family.”
Jumping Eagle also had an open warrant regarding an unrelated failure to register as a sex offender, charges that could result in 10 years in prison and $250,000 fine.
The date of Jumping Eagle’s first court appearance remains unclear at this time.
