Additional S.D. pharmacies added to administer COVID-19 vaccinations

PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) – Wednesday, South Dakota’s Secretary of Health, Kim Malsam-Rysdon, reminded state residents that additional COVID-19 vaccination sites across the state have been activated or are about to start administering vaccinations through the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program. This will include major retailers:

“I would like to thank Walmart for activating their Rapid City location this Thursday, to begin distributing COVID-19 vaccines,” said Kim Malsam-Rysdon, Secretary of Health. “Private partners like Cardinal Health, Hy-Vee Pharmacy, Lewis Drug and Walmart, in addition to our Phase I vaccinators, are making a powerful impact in the fight against COVID-19 in South Dakota.”

The Federal Retail Pharmacy Program was initially activated in South Dakota on February 11, 2021 and included 13 retails sites statewide. Since then, the program has added additional participating retailers and currently has 56 participating locations, with more coming online each week. Retail pharmacies receive their vaccine allotment directly from the federal government, which means an increase in the total number of weekly COVID-19 doses arriving in South Dakota. All pharmacies are vaccinating South Dakotans according to the state’s priority populations.

“Additional vaccine access points means added convenience for all state residents.” added Malsam-Rysdon.
