SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Sioux Falls Police Department is warning local residents of a scam.
This time, scammers are using the Police Department’s own phone number to appear legitimate.
Those that answer the call are told that they’ll be arrested if they don’t pay the scammer in gift cards, cryptocurrency, or reloadable credit cards.
The Police Department says that they never take payments of any kind over the phone.
If you receive a call and are concerned, make a separate call to the department to verify what you are told is accurate before proceeding.
