Apparent inmate assault on penitentiary staff member

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com — A staff member at the South Dakota Penitentiary has reportedly been injured in an assault by an inmate.  The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s office dispatched an ambulance the Penitentiary at about 8:30 this morning, but officials there say their office is not assisting in handling the case.  So far there’s no word on how serious the injuries are, but state officials are investigating.  We’ll bring you more information as it becomes available.
