Last night we watched the 2005 classic Robots. The animated movie? It’s a solid flick! Sure, it’s marketed for kids, but the bigger message overall hits the adults where it hurts! It’s a great movie. Directed by Chris Wedge who did the first Ice Age movie, it stars Ewan McGregor as Rodney Copperbottom. Plus a slew of other greats like Halle Berry, Greg Kinnear, Mel Brooks, Amanda Bynes, Drew Carey, and Robin Williams.
Rodney Copperbottom is an inventor and wants to show his ideas to the world, then he goes to the big corporation to show off what he’s made, and they shut down his ideas. But the current guy in charge wants to change the ways the company operates by only selling NEW parts. No more aftermarket parts are allowed. If you can’t afford them, you can’t afford to stick around! The original founder of the company sees this and is very upset, and teams up with Rodney and his friends to showcase what good inventions look like! It’s a solid movie with great undertones in messages. My son really liked it a lot because he’s really into robots right now, and this is a safe movie for the kids. Sure the overall message might be lost on them, but that’s okay! It’s an animated movie about robots, how deep can it be? Very. I’ll let you think for yourself on this one after you see it. If you haven’t seen it, you should totally check it out. If you have, but it’s been a while, it’s a great nostalgic movie to re-watch.
I give this one 2 ½ stars out of 5. It’s a very average movie – You can see what I’m currently watching by following me on Letterboxd @ roberthawk
