SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls Police are asking for the public’s help in their investigation of a fatal shooting in the parking lot of Giliberto’s Restaurant early Sunday morning.
Officer Sam Clemens says a 37-year-old man from Sioux Falls died after he arrived at a Sioux Falls hospital. Two other men, ages 26 and 29, also from Sioux Falls, were wounded, one in the leg and the other in the arm.
Clemens says there were over 40 people in the parking lot in the 700 block of South Minnesota Avenue about 2:40 a.m. Sunday. He says there were two “groups” there, there was a disagreement or fight, and someone pulled out a handgun and began firing. Clemens says a couple of vehicles were also hit in the melee. Clemens says the groups knew each other.
Clemens says the police have talked to a number of cooperating witnesses, a number of which have provided cell phone videos of the incident. He says the police do not yet have a person or persons of interest. Clemens asks that if you have information or video of the incident to contact the police or contact Crimestoppers.
Indirectly connected to the shooting, Clemens says they arrested Isaac Mohammod Wali, 20, from Sioux Falls. Clemens says while leaving the scene, he nearly ran over a police officer. A pursuit then took place, ending in the 29th Street and Euclid Avenue area when Wali’s vehicle became disabled. Wali is charged with aggravated assault on law enforcement, aggravated eluding, resisting arrest, and fleeing.
The police did not give an update on the conditions of the two men wounded by the gunfire. Clemens said there were also withholding the number of rounds fired at this time.
