SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KWSN.com) – Here’s your morning sports update for Tuesday, April 5, 2022.
– South Dakota and South Dakota State will have a new football opponent starting in 2023. Murray State’s football team is joining the Jacks and Coyotes in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. The move comes after the Racers left the Ohio Valley Conference for the Missouri Valley in the school’s other sports. Murray State’s admission brings the MVFC to 12 teams. They’re the first team to join since North Dakota jumped aboard for the 2020 season. The move will officially go through on July 1, 2023.
– Nebraska men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg has added to his staff. He announced South Alabama assistant Adam Howard has been hired for the same position with the Cornhuskers. Howard spent the past four years at South Alabama. Howard previously was an assistant at Troy, Tennessee, Southern Mississippi and Morehead State. Howard replaces Matt Abdelmassih (AB-dell-MASS-ee), who left Nebraska on March 17 by mutual agreement.
