SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — Two people are arrested for child abuse after fleeing authorities on Friday night while driving intoxicated with a 2-year-old child in the backseat.
26-year-old Kathleen Viereck of Sioux Falls and 32-year-old Elijah Black Thunder of Sisseton are charged for abuse or cruelty to a minor, DUI, and possession of a controlled substance.
Viereck is charged with driving without a license and Black Thunder is charged with driving with a suspended license and in possession of an open container.
Viereck was driving the vehicle when police pursued. She stopped the car and ran away on foot. Black Thunder moved to the driver’s seat and fled the scene. Later, Black Thunder returned to the scene with Viereck’s 2-year-old daughter in the backseat.
The child had no injuries.
