SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — The Sioux Falls City Council has approved a new 5-year contract for Ambulance service with PatientCare EMS, but not without criticism. The proposal has won the support of the Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority, as well as Avera and Sanford Health Systems.
Councilor Curt Soehl agrees the company has done a good job, but still has a major problem with the contract, saying it’s a multi-year, multi-million-dollar agreement that should be the subject of a competitive bid process. He says doing anything less is a disservice to the taxpayers of Sioux Falls.
The proposal passed 7-to-1, with Councilor Soehl being the lone dissenting vote. The company has agreed to replace older ambulance trucks with new ones and expand the fleet from 11 to 12 ambulances starting next year.
