RAPID CITY, S.D. (KELO.com) – United States Attorney Ron Parsons announced today that U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier has sentenced a Lead, South Dakota, woman convicted of Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury. The sentencing took place on October 30, 2026.
Vivian Rose One Feather, age 32, was sentenced to three years and five months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
One Feather was indicted by a federal grand jury in May 2026. She pleaded guilty on August 7, 2026.
On Valentine’s Day 2026, One Feather and her boyfriend saw a man walking alongside the road near Little Eagle, South Dakota. One Feather believed the man had wronged her boyfriend’s mother. One Feather and her boyfriend exited their vehicle and began assaulting the male. While the boyfriend used only his fists, One Feather struck the man with a metal bar and kicked him, even after he fell to the ground. One Feather only stopped when her boyfriend pulled her away. The male lost consciousness during the assault and experienced extreme pain. He required sutures and staples for several injuries to his head and experienced dizziness for months after the assault.
This matter was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office because the Major Crimes Act, a federal statute, mandates that certain violent crimes alleged to have occurred in Indian country be prosecuted in Federal Court as opposed to State Court.
This case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs – Office of Justice Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Carl Thunem prosecuted the case.
One Feather was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to serve her federal sentence.
