PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — South Dakota’s new Health Department Workforce and Education Center will be up and running next week. The 70-million dollar facility in Pierre is in the final stages of construction. Health Secretary Melissa Magstadt says the state lab conducted nearly 150-thousand lab tests over the past year. She says it also serves as the Bio-terrorism lab for this area, “God forbid that it would ever have to be used, but we are at the ready to go forward if bio-terrorism or something like that would happen.”
Interim Director Laurie Gregg is at the helm of the center now. A new lab director will be moving to Pierre from Northern Michigan next month.
