Landowners Upset with Proposed Site of New Smithfield Foods

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Landowners near the proposed site of a new Smithfield Foods plant in northwest Sioux Falls are challenging the conditional use permit for the project.

The facility is expected to process about 23,000 hogs per day.

Property owners say the plant location is directly across the street from existing homes.

The city has until August 25th to respond to the challenge.
