EAGLE BUTTE, SD (KELO.com) — Officers with the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Department of Law Enforcement responded to a report of a serious incident involving a vehicle striking a male pedestrian in Eagle Butte, South Dakota.
Upon arrival, responding officers located the victim and immediately rendered medical assistance.
The victim, an adult male from Eagle Butte, was transported to the Cheyenne River Health Center, where he was later pronounced deceased as a result of the injuries sustained.
The suspect vehicle fled the scene following the collision. Through the coordinated efforts of responding officers and investigators, the suspect was subsequently located and taken into custody.
This incident remains under active investigation. No additional information will be released at this time to maintain the integrity of the investigation.
The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Department of Law Enforcement is working closely with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Justice Services (BIA-OJS) as this investigation continues.
